Ok, I just read somewhere that this singing kid Justin Bieber has a "Swagger Coach" that helps style his "street look" which consists of baseball caps, hoodies, dog chains, flashy sneakers, etc. He's also adopted a manner of speech consisting of slang such as "Wassup man, how you doin'?" or "It's like, you know, whateva".
He was also recently nominated for a BET award. I did a Google search for BET Awards and this is what I got:
Now, since they referenced African-Americans let’s infer they mean minorities in a racial context. Unless they’ve magically changed the rules on this (like yesterday) how exactly is this kid a minority? I’m not knocking him personally but this is more on the consistency of BET and these awards. If we’re talking about the minority being young white kids from Canada singing R&B, dressing up like Skateboard P, and talking like Gucci Mane then I’d say he was a minority in that capacity but other than that I don’t think so.
In a recent article BET gave their reasoning for the award nomination saying "Bieber has crossed the colour boundaries the same way that hip-hop has crossed the boundaries the other way for a number of years,". Ok, now someone please tell me exactly what boundaries has he crossed? I've never heard anybody in the hood bumping Justin Bieber. How exactly has he crossed over? Because he wears fitted caps and basketball jerseys? I don’t think so. They can make him as "street" as they want to but the minute he pulls a "John Mayer" lets see how many of his "fans" stand behind him then.
Ultimately this all leads me to believe one thing
Blackface is still around, they just don't use makeup anymore
